Tour de Taiwan (#6)
Today was a special day. Our journey moved from West to East, with the challenge of a mountain crossing. it was both the most exciting leg but also the most feared.
We started early from Fong Harbor with a 21k mountain climb of 450 meters. Our journey took us up a narrow mountain East ~ West road frequented with huge trucks and busses. We all cautiously proceeded up the long climb. After 1.3 hours, all of us made it to the summit. it was a glorious event.
With lot's of media attention, photos and celebrations followed. Everyone made it to the top. After individual recognization and cheers, we proceeded down a windy steep, 10K descent to a wonderful coffee shop on the water. Here, we took time to congratulate each other as well as talk about our accomplishment and climbing techniques.
Next, we proceeded along the jagged edge of between Taiwan and the Pacific ocean. to our coastal lunch. We settled in a wonderfully traditional place with a great environment. We all continued to celebrate our PR's and how we would perform for the rest of the day.
Another 50K of riding and climbing brought us to our hotel. Finally after 105k and 1,121 meters of climbing, our journey was complete for the day.
It was an incredible day. Everyone finished the ride. A true accomplishment for anyone!
We had a wonderful dinner in a local restaurant where the A-Team brotherhood became more powerful and trusting.
We're all ready for the long journey from Jhihben Town to Hualin. It will be one of most beautiful legs of our trip.
More to follow.
