Up A-Team

A-Team Riders Tour Tainan and Its Famous Local Food

The third day’s 137-kilometer ride from Merida’s Changhua headquarters to Tainan City was the longest planned distance of the 11-day tour. If the riders were able to complete the hundred kilometer rides on the second and third days, there should be no problems for them conquering the remaining ride days. The cyclists felt cool and comfortable riding bicycles on such a cloudy day.

In the early morning, Merida staff sent the A-Team riders off from Da Tsun township, southward along Provincial Highway No.1. Kenda President Ying Ming Yang organized a cheering team to show their support for the A-Team riders as they rode through Kenda’s headquarters in Yuanlin. Afterwards, the riders took a quick stop at Cheng Shin’s Changhua Hsi Zhou factory and Kenda’s Yunlin Ci Tong factory.

The third day was the longest distance ride so far in the tour, but luckily the riders were cycling more smoothly under the cloudy skies and cooler weather. The morning ride was up to 65 kilometers and the schedule was followed strictly. Vice Chairman Michael Tseng said that after the first day’s warm-up ride and second day’s challenge, he felt much stronger and more confident.

The tour team started their afternoon ride from Chiayi, and continued southward to Tainan City. The road conditions were quite good, so the riders made good time. At the Hou Bi train station, Chairman Tony Lo said fewer cars and fewer traffic lights on the way to Tainan were great for cycling, and that he would ride again next time. After the group’s arrival at Shan Hua Beer Culture Park, the riders were welcomed by KMC and Alex employees. These supporters served up bowls of iced mango, a local favorite, and many employees joined the ride to Tainan City.

After the successful finish of Tuesday’s long distance, KMC President Charlie Wu, who just returned to Taiwan, hosted a dinner at Mr. Chou’s restaurant in downtown Tainan, which is well known for its fried shrimp rolls. Dinner included a variety of local foods, such as fried shrimp rolls, eel noodles, fried coffin-like toast, fish rice noodles and An-ping tofu pudding, as well as turkey-rice and mango ice. The riders ate all the famous Tainan local food, to congratulate their efforts of the day’s ride.
